Navigation

The process of navigating the SLD website is quite straightforward and is based mainly around the navigation bar and the search bar. Wherever you are in the database, you will find these bars at the top of the page. The illustration below shows a typical SLD page, with the various navigation tools labelled.

Navigation options

The navigation bar contains hyperlinks to various other pages, including the home page. Simply click on the link to be taken directly to the page indicated.

The search bar comes in an upper and lower half. The top half contains the Quick search facility, comprising three boxes into which you can enter some basic information about the legislation you are looking for and a drop-down list to narrow down your search to particular legislation types. Once you click the 'Go' button to launch the search, you are taken to a page containing the results from the database.

The bottom half of the search bar contains hyperlinks to the Advanced search facility, an A to Z index and a Chronological index. Simply click on the link to obtain these search or index options.

The breadcrumb trail shows the route from the home page to the page you are currently viewing. The previous pages on the route are all displayed as hyperlinks, so that you can click on them to return to those pages. For instance, in the example above the Results within Legislation page is on view, as indicated by the words 'Results within legislation' at the end of the breadcrumb trail, and we arrived at this via the Chronological index, as indicated by the hyperlink 'Chronological Index' after the 'Home' hyperlink.

The final navigation tool labelled above is the footer, which simply re-iterates the navigation options from the navigation and search bars.
